Moonlight Game Streaming is an exceptional open-source client designed for high-performance PC virtualization. It allows users to stream their full PC desktop, games, and programs over a local network or the internet. Historically, Moonlight operated as a third-party client for NVIDIA's proprietary GameStream protocol. Following the deprecation of GameStream, the platform transitioned to Sunshine, a powerful, self-hosted, open-source streaming server. Sunshine allows users with any modern GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) to stream their systems with exceptional performance. This transition has made Moonlight highly flexible, freeing it from the constraints of single-vendor hardware ecosystems.

The app's performance metrics are highly competitive, supporting video feeds up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second with HDR10 color rendering. It supports modern compression standards like H.264, HEVC, and the highly efficient AV1 codec, which minimizes bandwidth usage while maintaining high visual fidelity. Multi-channel audio pipelines can stream up to 7.1 surround sound, delivering a highly immersive desktop experience on mobile clients.

To deliver a true desktop experience, the app translates touch inputs into precise mouse coordinates.
