meterEZ - Mobile Parking App

Municipal parking systems often struggle with payment friction and high maintenance costs for physical meters. The meterEZ mobile parking application, developed by meterEZ LLC, addresses these challenges by digitizing street and lot parking payments. Primarily deployed within the municipalities of Erie and Meadville, Pennsylvania, the application provides an alternative to physical currency, allowing drivers to start, monitor, and extend parking sessions directly from their smartphones.

A key feature of the app's payment architecture is "EZwallet," an integrated pre-funded digital wallet designed to address high payment-processing overhead. Because typical parking fees are microtransactions (often under $2.00), standard credit card processing fees can absorb a large percentage of the transaction. By allowing users to load larger lump sums (such as $10.00 or $20.00) into the EZwallet, meterEZ consolidates processing costs, allowing the platform to reduce or waive individual transaction fees.

Version 2.0 of the application was rebuilt from the ground up to replace its legacy web-view layout with a native mobile interface. This update introduced key usability features, such as passwordless sign-in via phone numbers, automated geolocation to identify the parking city, and support for managing multiple vehicles. Drivers can assign unique vehicle names, license plates, and distinct color indicators to prevent parking enforcement officers from ticketing the wrong vehicle due to a typographical error.

Despite these improvements, localized municipal apps often face development constraints compared to national platforms. Users have reported database sync issues following software updates, which occasionally cleared saved vehicle profiles, payment histories, and active wallet balances. Additionally, the Android build lacks active notification widgets, which would allow drivers to monitor remaining time directly from their lock screens.
