Overview

The mobile role-playing landscape has evolved beyond fantasy environments to include highly detailed urban settings. NTE: Neverness to Everness, developed by Hotta Studio (creators of Tower of Fantasy) and published by Arc Games, is an open-world, supernatural action RPG set in the bustling metropolis of Hethereau. Mixing urban life-simulation elements with supernatural themes, the game places players in the role of the "Appraiser" at Eibon Antiquities. In this role, players investigate anomalies and coordinate with unique companions to resolve supernatural events.

The gameplay loop balances action and city management. Players can spend their time running businesses, customized luxury apartments, street racing, and fishing across the city. The game's economy is centered on "Fons," the main currency earned through missions and business management. As players accumulate Fons and complete achievements, their "City Tycoon" level increases, unlocking new areas and activities.

Enjoy this continuous urban sandbox with vertical movement and customizable cars. Combat is fast-paced, featuring team mechanics based on six elemental affinities: Anima, Chaos, Cosmos, Incantation, Lakshana, and Psyche. Players cycle through characters to trigger elemental combos, supported by parries and perfect dodges that add technical depth. Traversing the city is highly fluid, as character combat skills double as exploration tools for running up walls and navigating obstacles.

The gacha system, called the Scarborough Fair, uses an interactive board game mechanic where players roll dice to land on rewards. S-Rank character banners offer a 100% guarantee upon reaching the drop milestone, removing the frustrating 50/50 chance of losing the banner character.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Detailed Neon City Environment: Hethereau feels alive and immersive, with vibrant neon streets, diverse districts, and enterable buildings.

  • Generous Gacha Mechanics: The Scarborough Fair system guarantees the featured banner character on S-Rank pulls, avoiding the typical 50/50 system.

  • Diverse Life-Simulation Activities: Features a wealth of side content, including running cafés, tuning cars, street racing, and customizing apartments.

  • Satisfying, Fast-Paced Combat: The combat feels fluid and responsive, utilizing quick character swaps, parries, and perfect dodges.

  • Dual-Purpose Traversal Skills: Traversal is fast and fun, as combat abilities seamlessly transition into parkour and wall-running.

  • Immersive First-Person View: Outside of combat, players can explore the city in first-person with an adjustable FOV slider for deeper immersion.

Cons
  • Significant Hardware Demands: The game's heavy graphic demands can cause thermal throttling and lag on mid-tier mobile devices.

  • Dual-Layered Energy Restrictions: Daily grinding is gated by standard recharge timers, while side activities are limited by a separate weekly energy pool.

  • Heavy Storage and Installation Size: The game requires substantial storage space, which can exceed the limits of average smartphones.

  • Inconsistent English Voice Acting: The voice work can feel unpolished and inconsistent, particularly during early quests and side stories.
